For the price, you would expect a very nice guesthouse, and although it has been painted to look nice, the sheets were very smelly, and the bathroom had tonnes of hair all over it, without a ventalation system.....the 2 owners were VERY friendly and efficient, but the price for that style guesthouse was too much for the price. It was like being on Khao San Road, but paying over 1000 baht. You could hear EVERY noise from other guests rooms and the hall......you can get better for the price.

Truely an exceptional but unique place burgers and shakes to die for. detail to finishing is second to none. we stayed in the AKWA Penthouse truely an exceptional piece of art on roof of building steep staircase so not for faint hearted. overall you must be nuts to pass up the offers on this hotel details to finishes are un real. Staff etc could not be nore helpful at all and literally 20 seconds to beach will return one day for longer keep up the good work!!!!

Penthouse room in Akwa Guesthouse was the best which we stayed in within its price range. The only comparison you can make is with 4-5* hotels were prices are at least few times higher.
Room itself (a bit small at first impression) has sufficient space and boasts amazing tarrace with sea view, sunbeds and dining area. Superb bed, 2 air con units, great audio-video system. What adds to it are all those small things (candies for good night, dvd and cd library, daily newspaper) that make you feel welcome and at home.
Great food, good location. Beach is just across the street.
Highly recommended.

We stayed at the penthouse. it was quite nicely styled. The terrace was fabulous. Some evenings the noise filtered in from nearby discos and bars. The shower and toilet were about the only problems we had, as the water pressure was very low to non-existent. The staircase would also be a problem for older and unfit people. All in all a fun place to stay for a few days.

After all the good reviews I was full of expectations.... and the rooms are really fun and bright. However, their new standard rooms are located a little bit further away on a side street. there was a live band playing every night until 2 am just opposite the hotel. Our room really captured that sound, so it felt like we had singer, drums and all in our room! Usually we dont mind a bit of noise, especially on a beach like Chaweng, but this was really bad. We could not even hear each other speaking in a normal tone of voice... We had a good time at the hotel but not much sleep unfortunately. Even though I really liked the rooms I would choose something else next time.
